Power kicks

Why?

...Well any high kick can put you in dire straits if your opponent counters and knocks you off balance. This is not a grading class when looking good is valued as much as technique.
In the Conflict jungle outside we are very close, too near for fancy footwork. Artists of lower grading rank can't stretch as far and lean over  –  they take the other leg away and you're a no legged duck in water spinning in circles...and it’s game over!

  • Why your body is like a system of levers pulleys and fulcrums and how you can prevent your hands wandering when you kick. You avoid dropping your guard  and  leaving yourself open to a vicious hiding.
  • The dangers of finishing a move out of position with multiple attackers. Get this wrong and you are at risk of an avalanche of punches, kicks or weapons' attacks.

  • How a slower kick is better than a faster one. Fast movements force faster reactions even without training, so you need to be sly like a politician and hit them off guard.
  • Why you never kick unless you punch first. This keeps your target in 'weapons' range and leaves them unable to cope with a second strike...so YOU end the assault before it escalates.

Training and conditioning

OK, next up we moved onto training and conditioning. You see, Peter long ago realised that it’s not about the size of the man in the fight but the size of the fight in the man. David defeated Goliath not with bigger muscle...just bigger strength of mind. No retreat. No surrender...

Mike Tyson always won the fight until someone believed they could beat him. He said “When I fight someone, I want to break his will. I want to take his manhood. I want to rip out his heart and show it to him."
